And that began my longterm use & enjoyment of RME gear and disuse of a Nuendo license I kept paying to upgrade while I used other things. This was *not* possible without tricking it to realtime priority for just the screenshot.Tbh the main reason that I know it has a better threading model is because I gave up on Steinberg around Nuendo3 era (though I think they finally have things working on C5 at least?) I built a dual xeon to their spec around a Nuendo audio interface (rebranded RME Multiface I) and it worked lovely for v1 up until VSTi support was bolted in on 1.5x. I posted a screenshot somewhere on the forum showing how I ran Reaper close to 100% CPU load at 48 samples on Windows. One particular quirk (when I last checked) is that even when you can manually override Reaper's priority via Task-Manager, it will fall back to its own setting as soon as you do any changes. Reaper offers loads of customizable settings on the other hand which can be quite powerful (once you master them, which is not that easy). Sonar still has the one or other advantage in the threading department over Reaper sometimes. This was *not* possible without tricking it to realtime priority for just the screenshot.

Both of which are problems of almost all DAWs on the market though (Samplitude Pro offers an option for "real" realtime priorities). Unless Reaper added it since I last tested it or maybe even added an option for "real" realtime support it will keep suffering from competing with Aero and Windows' dynamic thread priorities scheme for its own GUI. One big advantage of Sonar over Reaper is CPU prioritization aka MMCSS.

Operative being was.because it was the best windows multithreaded DAW when it first came out.Sonar still has the one or other advantage in the threading department over Reaper sometimes. What I said was 'Sonar was the reigning champion on Windows' until Reaper.
